Mary Hickey

Mary originally trained in Catering Management (Cathal Brugha Street) and worked in private & public hospitals and also contracting catering sites in the UK and Ireland. However she c hanged career in 1998 prior to moving to Tallaght Hospital and completed MBA, Smurfit Business School 1998 – 2000,  Strategic Planning Co-Ordinator for the new hospital 1998 – 2000,  Accreditation Manager 2000 – 2005,  2005 – to-date Quality Improvement Manager.

Mary implemented the first Six Sigma programme in an Irish hospital in November 2000. Red Cross Hospital in Amsterdam and Tallaght hospital were the only two hospitals in Europe using the methodology at the time. Mary achieved Public Service Award from An Taoiseach for the successful implementation of the programme in 2004.

Mary's other achievements to date are completing Master Black Belt training with the Juran Institute in 2009, introduced Kaizen in 2008, she is a t rained coach – member of EMCC and Association of Coaching, a  Lecturer on Quality module IPA, former Chair of the Healthcare Organisation Development Network and past president of the Irish branch of the European Health Managers Forum. Mary is also an invited speaker at a number of conferences (Irish, UK and European) including the Deming transformation Forum and Institute of Directors, Manchester.
